Key Stage 2 (ages 7-11)

Key Stage 2

Pupils entering Year 3 follow an increasingly broad curriculum as they are taught by subject specialists for Art, Music, Drama, ICT, Science, Games, PE, PSHE and French with the support and security of a form teacher.

The form teacher plays a vital role in supporting a child in his or her form and is the first point of contact for parents.

Parents meet with the form teacher at Parent Evenings and have an in-depth discussion regarding their child. Additional meetings can be arranged, outside this time, and regular contact is maintained through email, the homework diary and reading journal.

Children in the Prep School largely follow the National Curriculum but have extension activities and broader extra-curricular provision wherever possible.

Pupils in Years 5 and 6 work with specialist teachers and are streamed by ability/pace in preparation for their senior school entrance exams.

In Key Stage 2 the children develop their French listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills consistently and rapidly. Small class sizes enable everyone to have lots of practise and gain confidence in speaking. The highlight for Year 6 is most definitely the residential trip in France in the spring term! It provides the children with a wonderful opportunity to practise their speaking skills in real life scenarios. Pupils leave Rupert House with a comprehensive level of French speaking and writing, well-prepared to develop their language skill further at their chosen senior school.
