The magical final week of term

The classrooms are filled with festive spirit, and the buzz of anticipation grows as pupils, parents and staff come together to celebrate the festive season. 

On Tuesday, the Friends of Rupert House gave the children a real treat with the much anticipated annual Christmas Fair. From the toy tombola to the parent present stall and the Christmas quiz to the high-energy karaoke, the fun was endless. Tom Scott from Henley Tennis Club played tennis games with the children in a snowy blizzard on the astro, and Father Christmas in his grotto was truly special. Huge thanks to all the parents involved and to the staff who helped the afternoon run so smoothly. 

On Thursday, the entire school enjoyed Christmas lunch with all the trimmings. With tables adorned with crackers and festive decorations, the hall was full of Christmas excitement. Chef Barry even delighted the children with a special dessert which included ice cream, popping candy and sparkly reindeer biscuits! 

The Chamber Choir have been hard at work, touring Henley to sing carols and Christmas songs to various people, bringing cheerful celebration to the community. On Monday, they visited Henley Manor Care home where the residents had a wonderful time signing along to the likes of Walking in a Winter Wonderland and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. They then joined the rest of the Henley primary schools on stage for Carols at the Kenton where they represented Rupert House with three beautifully performed songs, before delighting the over 65s of Henley at The Mayor’s Christmas Party at the Town Hall. The Junior Choir also enjoyed spreading some seasonal joy when they sang to the residents of Chiltern Court Care Home on Tuesday.

On Tuesday and Thursday, everyone swaped their school jumpers for colourful and creative Christmas jumpers. From jingling bells to twinkling lights, the variety of jumpers on display always brings a sea of Christmas colour to the school. It’s a simple, but delightful way to celebrate the season!

During Final Assembly on Thursday afternoon, the whole school was treated to a number of musical and poetry performances from children across the school. Sports, Literacy and House prizes were awarded and the grand finale was a special rendition of The 12 Days of Christmas by the Rupert House staff! 

The week culminated with our traditional end-of-term carol service, held in the beautiful St Mary's Church, which this year was extra festive thanks to the Christmas Tree Festival which is taking place this week. Families joined us as we came together to sing carols, listen to readings and poems, and reflect on the meaning of the season. It’s a poignant and joyful way to close the term, leaving everyone with a warm and festive feeling as they head into the holidays.

This final week of term is not just a countdown to Christmas but a celebration of togetherness, generosity, and joy. It’s a time when the entire school community comes alive with festive spirit. We hope that everyone has a lovely break and wish you a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!
