Foodbank donations: Making a difference in the community

A group of Year 5 pupils took over 60 bags and boxes of donations to the Nomad Henley foodbank on the morning of 17th October.

The children enjoyed talking to Jaco, who works for the charity at the D2 centre. They discovered more about how the foodbank works and took the opportunity to ask him lots of questions.

Jaco explained that the foodbank gets a lot of its donations from local schools and also from a large donation box in Tesco, Henley. Each recipient of a food parcel usually gets two bags in each delivery, which would typically cost around £50 if they had bought the contents from a supermarket. The children discovered that tins of baked beans are the most popular donation which got a mixed reaction!

Mr Armitage said "The team at NOMAD and I deeply appreciate the incredible generosity of the children, staff, and parents in supporting the food bank. The children recognise that being part of a community means helping those in need, and they are eager to contribute in any way they can. We are thankful for the many benefits of being part of the wonderful Henley community, and this initiative is just one way for us to give back."

A huge thank you to the Rupert House community for your generosity. The Rupert House donations doubled the existing number of current donations waiting to be sorted and packaged at the foodbank which is fantastic.

We must also thank parents for their retiring collection donations at the end of our Harvest Festival on 18th October - you raised £155 for NOMAD and £155 for St Mary's Church which is fantastic.
