Henley Youth Festival 2024

The event kicked off with the HYF Run organised and hosted by Physiolistic at the Henley Rugby Ground. A good number of Rupert House children attended and all of them ran really well. A special mention goes to Teddy M in Year 4 who won her race, Othello F in Year 5 who came second in his, and Harrison B who came third in the Reception race.

On Sunday, the Music Makers event was held in the Rupert House School hall. There were performances from pupils who attend schools across Henley, including a number of children from Rupert House, all of whom played or sang really well.  

The Nursery to Year 3 children were treated to a performance by Scarlet Oak Theatre of ‘Along Came a Magpie’ on Tuesday and Years 5 and 6 were entertained by the Young Shakespear Company with 'A Midsummer Nights Dream'.

On Thursday, Year 4 had an amazing morning learning all about Flamenco dancing. A fantastic man called Daniel told the children that Flamenco originally came from India and that it later moved to Spain where it is now famous. It was initially a bit misunderstood and at one time, could only be danced in caves out of sight of the public. They got to look at (and try on) some fantastic costumes before learning different styles of clapping and tapping and how these can be used to change the pace of the music. What a wonderful and very colourful morning we had.

In the afternoon, Year 4 were treated to a scientific extravaganza at the ‘Rude Science’ show at the Kenton theatre this morning. They learned all about our amazing body and some of the crazy yet interesting things it does. Well done to Mr Dwinell, Coralie and Lottie who were invited to take part in the show and were such good sports!

Well done to our talented artists who have won prizes in the Henley Youth Festival Art Competition! The children created fantastic artwork with the theme “My Favourite Things” and have been invited to a prizegiving ceremony at Henley Town Hall on Sunday afternoon. All the winners’ artwork will be displayed in Henley Library for the public to admire.
