Rupert House is...adventurous

Whilst we celebrate time in the classroom, at Rupert House, we also recognise that time out in the fresh air, encouraging adventure and exploring the great outdoors is hugely beneficial to children. It is also fundamental in supporting our ethos of courage, creativity, respect and resilience whilst all the time enhancing the children’s physical, social and emotional development.

At Rupert House we instil in our children a great love of the outdoors and a sense of adventure from the very first moments they join us at the age of 3.  Rupert House children are regularly able to explore nature in our own on-site Forest School, enhancing their collaboration and team building skills as well as risk taking in a safe environment.  From digging and climbing trees to hunting mini beasts and sawing wood or simply enjoying toasting marshmallows around the campfire, our children in Nursery and Reception thoroughly enjoy their visits to our Forest School.

Once children move into Year 1, they transition to timetabled Outdoor Education lessons which continue until they leave us at the end of Year 6.  Whether these lessons take place at our on-site Forest School, on Path Hill, or out and about in Henley-on-Thames, the children enjoy a wide range of activities building on their knowledge and awareness of nature, and the geography of the local area.

The adventures continue throughout the Prep School, with a trips that immerse the children in fun, creative, outdoor activities. Years 3, 4 and 6 enjoy visits to PGL, the UK’s leading outdoor education provider, where the timetable includes abseiling, boating, climbing, swimming, swinging, trekking and trapezing. Whilst, in Year 5, a trip to Bushcraft sees the children get back to basics with real outdoor experiences enabling them to become fully enveloped in the wilderness, sleeping under the stars and cooking over open fires.
