22nd November 2024

This week has been relatively quiet compared to the craziness of last week!

We have braved the cold, yet beautiful weather, with lots of outdoor learning and sports including football and hockey fixtures and lots of children turned out in freezing conditions for Running Club this morning, which I was most impressed with. The children have been busy preparing for the Christmas festivities with Mrs Light and rehearsals for the Pre-Prep Christmas plays are in full swing!

Thank you very much to the Friends (especially Mrs Hegarty and Mrs Benson) for organising the wonderful FoRH Christmas Party at The Bottle & Glass last night. It was a super evening, with delicious food, a challenging quiz, dancing and much fun was had by all. The DJ very kindly donated his fee to NOMAD, which was very generous of him. I should imagine there will have been a few sore heads this morning!

Year 5 Education Henley Maths Challenge

We hosted the annual Year 5 Maths Challenge earlier this week, which was run by Head of Maths, Mr Dwinell. In total, 20 children from five different local schools took part, including Charlie T, Joshua M, Charlotte V and Edith M from Rupert House. Children worked in pairs to complete tasks involving problem-solving, arithmetic and quantitative reasoning. All the participants demonstrated strong maths and team-work skills which impressed Mr Dwinell and the staff observing. Congratulations to a team from St Edwards Prep who were the overall winners this year.

Parent / Staff Choir

If you are interested in taking part in the Rupert House staff and parent choir to sing at the Christmas Service, please come along to the rehearsals on the below dates. If you are able to make any or all of these, it would be fantastic to see you there! No experience necessary, just a willingness to enjoy some festive music making and to sing with our talented children as part of the celebrations on 13th December at St Mary’s Church.

Rehearsals will take place in the Music Studio on:

• Tuesday afternoons 4.15-4.45pm on 26th Nov and 3rd Dec*

• Friday mornings 8.00-8.30am on 29th Nov and 6th Dec

*Please can we ask you to book your children in for aftercare or homework club if they need to stay in school and would not normally be doing a club while you are rehearsing.

ABRSM Showcase Concert

You are warmly invited to attend our music exam Showcase Concert on Thursday 28th November. The Concert will feature performances from all our children who are taking Associated Board and Trinity exams this session. It will be chance for them to perform some of their exam pieces in front of an audience, and hopefully quash a few nerves at the same time! The Concert will start at 4.30pm in the Hall and should finish around 5.30pm (or just after). Refreshments will be available. We look forward to seeing you there!

Pre-Prep Christmas plays

The Pre-Prep Christmas plays are taking place on 2nd December (EYFS) and 4th/ 6th December (KS1) when parents are invited to come and watch. We are limited to 2 people per child due to the space in the hall. To reserve your seats, please complete the relevant form(s) by end of day Wednesday 27th November.

HTC Santa Run

The annual Henley Santa Run takes place on Sunday 8th December outside Leander Club at 10am. Once again, Rupert House is sponsoring the event so it would be wonderful to see lots of families there. It costs £15 per family of 4, or £5 per person. This includes a free Santa hat and prizes for best dressed, plus hot chocolate and mince pies will be served at the finish. All proceeds go to the Mayor's Charity fund supporting local causes. It is great fun for all the family! You can find more information here: Santa on the Run 2024

Please note that the planned cross-country event at The Oratory tomorrow has been cancelled due to the predicted bad weather.

I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes

Nick Armitage
