It has been a busy week of trips with some of the Prep children attending a music workshop at Abingdon School, Year 4 visiting the Living Rainforest, a group of Year 6 showing off their mathematical skills at the Eagle House Maths Challenge and Year 3 heading off to the River and Rowing Museum as part of their Rivers topic this term.
The children also enjoyed an assembly held by Mrs Fletcher on the subject of Artificial Intelligence. This was ahead of Safer Internet Day which takes place next week (6th February). You may have seen the video she created using AI on the school social media – if not, it’s worth taking a look! All the children will take part in activities next week on internet safety.
We are looking forward to STEAM week in the second half of term, which this year is themed around 'Time', both looking back over the last 100 years and forward to the future, with AI and the development of technology being a key focus. If you might be willing to share a relevant area of expertise with the children during the week, Mrs Fletcher (afletcher@ruperthouse.oxon.sch.uk) would love to hear from you please!
Half term may be just around the corner, but there are still lots of events happening next week so make sure you keep an eye on the school calendar and read the notices in the information section below.
Coats
Please make sure your child wears a coat into school each morning (and their teachers will make sure they wear one home again!). It is still pretty chilly outside and it is important that the children have coats in school for wearing at break times in particular.
Centenary
We have now finalised the dates for all the centenary events, with the Ball taking place on Saturday 14th September here on the grounds at Rupert House. This promises to be a spectacular event for both current parents and past pupils/parents/staff and governors and I very much hope that you will be keen to attend. Please save the date and look out for further communications on how to purchase tickets.
Were you a former pupil at Rupert House, or do you know any former pupils, staff, governors or parents? We have set up an online collection of memories submitted by Rupert House alumni and hope to collect together the stories of 100 people to commemorate and represent the 100 years of the school's history. Please see the letter below for more information on how you can be included.
World Thinking Day
22nd February is World Thinking Day and we would like to invite pupils who are Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to come into school on that day in their uniforms. Traditionally, World Thinking Day is a day of friendship and empowerment for Scout and Guide organisations around the world. On this day, Scouts and Guides think about their "sisters" and "brothers" in other countries, the meaning of Scouting and Guiding, and its global impact.
Dr Cassie’s talk on ‘Sleep difficulties in Children’
If you would like to attend but have not yet signed up to the very important talk by Dr Cassie which will take place here in school on Thursday 8th February 3-3.30pm, please do so here. It promises to be a fascinating and very relevant talk and lots of people have already registered for it.
ABRSM Showcase Concert
There will be a showcase concert on the afternoon of 5th March at 4.45pm for all children taking their ABRSM exams this term. This will give them the opportunity to perform in front of their parents ahead of their exam date. Please email Mrs Light if you have any queries.
Movie Night
I hope everyone has a wonderful time at the Matilda Movie Night tonight and I look forward to seeing the children there! Thank you to Mrs Lamb and the members of FoRH who have put so much effort into organising this fun end to the week.
A reminder that the Shiplake Cross Country event takes place tomorrow for children in Years 1-6 from 9am. I hope lots of the children will be keen to take part!
