Poppies for VE Day 80
On May 8th, 2025, we will commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day, a momentous occasion that unites the people, families, and communities of our nation in celebration.
This historic day marks 80 years of peace since the end of World War II in Europe, a peace made possible by the ultimate sacrifice of millions.
Henley-on-Thames will honour this milestone with a three-day event starting on May 8th, and for the first time ever, Henley Market Place will host a Mark IX Spitfire.
In addition, the Women's Institute (WI) is organising a special display of knitted and crocheted poppies, made by individuals throughout Henley. Our knitting club teachers and pupils, along with their parents and grandparents, have contributed an incredible 104 poppies of all shapes and sizes. When displayed together, they will form a stunning tribute for the community to admire.
