Mental Health Awareness Week
13th -17th May 2024 is Mental Health Awareness Week. The theme this year is 'movement'. So this week we have been doing lots of activities across the school to raise awareness at Rupet House.
On Monday, the whole school went out for a stretching session on the lawn, led by the Year 6 children. It was a great start to the day!
Year 3 incorporated Mental Health Awareness Week into their maths lesson. They had lots of fun outdoors, measuring the perimeter of 2D shapes! The teachers thought it would be a good idea to have a break from the classroom, get some fresh air by taking their learning outside.
Year 4 spent the morning at the outdoor classroom, also doing maths. Children collected data on the colour of cars driving along the Fairmile, measured pace during a 200m race and also did some nature hoops to calculate the number of bugs and plants in the area. A great morning was had by all, and both the children and teachers certainly felt the benefit of being out and about in the fresh air. What a great start to the week!
On Tuesday, the Year 4 children did a French treasure hunt that required finding French clues about their topic "the room of the house". The children demonstrated good teamwork and were physically active while looking for clues in school and outside.
Year 5 had a great session outdoors, moving and working together on Wednesday. They worked together to complete a 'mountain rescue' and a 'river crossing.'
On Thursday, the children watched the BBC Live programme on Mental Health Awareness Week and joined in with some breathing and mindfulness activities to start the day.
The Reception children, well-equipped with a pair of binoculars, then went outside on a safari to spot some animals. They were great explorers and were able to successfully name all the animals they saw in French!
In Year 4, the children enjoyed a French treasure hunt that required finding French clues about our topic "the rooms of the house". The children demonstrated good teamwork and were physically active while looking for clues outside and in school. They had a lot of fun while consolidating the vocabulary learned in class.
On Friday, the Year 2 children started to learn the months of the year in French. They helped Madame Sheriff to find the French months that were hidden outside and were able to organise them in the correct order. They also answered a French quiz on “les mois de l’année”. Bravo Year 2!
