Flamenco fun!

With a warm southerly breeze and the sun shining, a taste of Spain was blown into Rupert House this week when we had a visit from Danielle, a professional Flamenco dancer as part of the Henley Youth Festival programme!

Originating in Northern India in the 1400s, gypsies brought flamenco to Southern Spain over 400 years ago.

Year 4 learned about the many different varieties of Flamenco including alegrías, bulerías, fandangos, seguiriyas, soleás, tangos, and sevillanas, and how each region has developed its own unique flamenco style, choreography and costume.

Accompanied by guitar, castanets, clapping and music, the children discovered the importance of improvisation in flamenco dancing.

Everybody worked on their footwork, clapping and posture, and there was much excitement as they flaunted their flamenco dresses and accessories, with everybody leaving feeling fully energised to the beat of the guitar!
