Celebrating Chinese New Year
Did you know that 2023 is the Year of the Rabbit?
With Chinese New Year 2023 falling on Sunday 22nd January this year, we decided to celebrate it today in school.
We began the day with an interesting assembly held by Mrs Newman, Mrs Fletcher and a Chinese Dragon (expertly brought to life by some of the Year 6 pupils!).
The children all wore a red accessory to mark the occasion and undertook various activities throughout the day in their classes.
Both Reception classes made sticky rice cakes which they had a go at eating afterwards! Reception B also spent the day making a fabulous red, orangeand yellow Chinese dragon.
Year 1 revisited ordinals. They listened to the story of the animal race in the ancient Chinese zodiac story and then sequenced the order in which they crossed the finish line. They also made concertina bunnies to celebrate the year of the rabbit. Year 1 is full of bunnies, monkeys and roosters!
